LD&D group met in Letters Room on November 8th to discuss the Moodle Interface.
Present: Helen Carter, Myles Carrick, Gerwood Stewart, Cherry Stewart, Sarah Thorneycroft, Brian Landrigan, Lynne Chapman, Mary Jarrot, Kim Harris, Lindy Klein, James Meek, Alison Davids, Tiffany Gilleland, Garry Edmonds
Helen Carter showed a power point of the learning design and development messages that have been conveyed to UNE council and to a recent HoS meeting. (that presentation is attached for your information). The focus of the message is the use of Moodle to engage our distance education students more actively in their learning through closer interaction with their unit facilitator; and greater collaboration between students.
Myles clarified some issues and background regarding the development of the, now live, Netspot installation of UNEMoodle. Those staff who are attending the training tomorrow or Wednesday will do their work in the production site. Tiffany has transferred the staff sandpit units into this environment ready for use. Eventually, the classroom development server will be removed.
The focus of Myles message included the need to be mindful of storage and location of files. We are encouraging all staff to consider storing media files on the media server, rather than within the LMS environment.
Gerwood demonstrated two 'panels' that he has been developing—a Search panel, and a dashboard containing tools which are for individual use. These are to be made available in the UNE Moodle environment.
Attached is a document outlining elements of the UNE Moodle interface. If you have any questions or feedback regarding this document, you can email me, or discuss the issue on Yammer.
The training sessions with Mark Drechsler will be in the EBL computer labs.Â
Our next LD&D session will be a follow-up regarding that training session and discussion of the planning for the Jan/Feb Train-trainer and strategies for engaging academics in the new year; and development of Model Moodle.
Our next scheduled get together is November 22.
