Agenda:
Clarification re meetings:
There are no 'kickstarts' scheduled anymore. The formal group meeting for design and development, and training and support staff is on Monday's fortnightly. As Mondays at 9:30 AM appears to be an inconvenient time for some staff, we will endeavour to make it at a more convenient time. It is proposed that the LD&D/T&S meetings be turned into workshop meetings where we investigate the intricacies of Moodle more thoroughly, and where we begin to build the Models in Moodle.
Feedback re Netspot Training Workshops
One item that developed from the workshops was a need to have more information distributed university wide about the file management system in Moodle which is considerably different from the Blackboard environment.
A presentation will be scheduled for when Mark Drechsler from Netspot is here in late February. This presentation will be video taped and made available to all the university community on these web pages.
Mailing Lists
moodleproject@une.edu.au — For queiries & comments about the Revitalising Learning project that you want to make direct to the project team (Helen Carter, Cherry Stewart, Myles Carrick, Gerwood Stewart, Tiffany Gilleland, Catherine Clarke)
revitalisinglearning@une.edu.au — All of the former project mailing lists have been collapsed into this one list. It is for communicating with anyone, about anything, relating to the Revitalising Learning projects.
Administative Assistant Workshops
About 50 administrration support staff attended introductory workshops on 16th & 18th November lead by Sarah Thorneycroft. Staff were invited to share their comments on how the Moodle transition and future online focus may impact their own roles, or how they support academic staff and students. A small group of staff members volunteered to become part of a Style Guide Working Group. This group will discuss the strategies that may support academic staff and students to become more familiar with the Moodle interface, and how we may support a common interface approach. They will meet on Friday, November 26 in TLC seminar room.
February Train-Trainer Workshops
Mark Drechsler will return to UNE in late February to conduct Train-Trainer workshops for staff nominated as Moodle Mentors. This will be a two-day program for these staff members.
LD&D/T&S Workshops
To facilitate the transition to the Moodle environment LD&D/T&S staff will be engaged in local design, development and support workshops in preparation for their working more intensley with academic and administrative staff in their school-based workshops beginning in March 2011. There workshops will be focused on using a variety of the Moodle tools to maximise the educational effectiveness of units.
Please vote for a time that would be suitable for scheduling these regular workshops.
Model Moodle
Is a workspace for creating 'byte' size examples of learning design within a Moodle environment. The focus in this space is real examples of structure and strategies for online learning. Please nominate various styles of presentations from existing Sakai and Blackboard units that we may provide as examples which other staff may incorporate into their own unit design.
During the transition workshops, academic staff may 'import' their chosen example into their own Moodle unit and build into that space.
Moodle Mentors
School-based staff will be invited to nominate as Moodle Mentors to support academic staff within their discipline or school. These staff will receive identified training to enable them to advise colleagues on various educational strategies and ways they might teach in the Moodle environment. Their support during the transition period will be vital for ensuring a smooth transition. They will be asked to provide feedbback to the Project Team and LD&D T&S community on issues that are affecting the transition.
This position is to be clarified in greater detail before seeking expressions of interest. Some of the issues which were raised during this discussion were linked to incentives, distinction between educational designer/academic developer role, no need for technical expertise, support of school management, clarification about who does the choosing, take on role similar to that of a school-based Equity Officer, could they be called an education advisor or something similar which defines role more clearly. do not want to have a duplication of responsibilities.
Influencer Workshop
Influencer Workshops will be offered to LD&D & T&S staff. The Influencer workshop is a two-day full-time program. We may adjust how it is offered. Staff who attend need to committ to the whole program. Details to be forwarded to all staff. Program is being organised through ODU. The program for the Influencer workshop is attached to this report. We will endeavour to organise a workshop prior to the Xmas break.
Sakai Transition
The quizzes function of Sakai will be exported direct to Moodle. ITD are working on a tool to perform this cleanly. Other Sakai elements will be transitioned by the Materials Development staff in TLC with the direction of relevant Unit Coordinators. This will be done between February and July as the materials development staff have time to dedicate to the project.
